Why I Write Poetry

My words might have gotten me a job somewhere
If I had put them in the right order.
I took an occupation test once, years ago,
Putting little pegs in little holes
As quickly as I could.
And I was good at it, they said.
“You have manual dexterity.”

But no uses of my hands have ever mattered
To me but in the touching of a woman’s body.
And no words either.
