| The cedar shingles came all the way from Canada and I had some environmental guilt about using such precious wood. My defense is that most of the materials for the cabin were gathered locally at Rabbit Rock. The little bit of pine boards I used was very modest and and the cedar shingles both front and back amount to only 144 square feet. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| The front shingles and the wall of pine boards and tar paper behind them were more difficult to install given the height off the ground. The peak of the eave in front is about 22 feet above the ground. When I built Rabbit Rock Lodge I built a a massive scaffolding system down the middle of the cabin 42 feet long and another one outside on the high end running 16 feet accross with two stories. This time I just used ladders. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Here is the front view of the cabin as it stands September 7, 2005. Still much work to do. I start on the doors and windows next. The ceiling you see in the left of the picture is the loft which extends only a little over half way across the cabin. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| In September the new cabin is barely visible from the road to Rabbit Rock down below. I'm using a zoom lens. I will be in New York for three weeks this fall, but hope to have the cabin completely finished by Thanksgiving. |

| I've been fascinated all my life by the rustic architectural legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps from whence I imagine came the term, "Good Enough for Government Work." Well, I hope this one is, too. | ||||||||||||||||||||
