All rates listed are estimates for double bed with shower and wc unless otherwise noted, and are in euros. All taxes are included. As of Nov 22, 2005 the conversion rate for a euro (€) is $1.17. To make the rough conversion in your head, just add 20%. Some Hotel web sights have music and at least one listed here has an amateur home movie. At the end of the Paris Hotel listings is a section for Provence which only has one listing for now, so everybody get busy. Also at the end of the listings are some very good search sites if you want to keep looking in Paris. There appears to be an endless number of reasonably priced hotels. 1st Arrondissement Le Petit Châtelet 9 rue St-Denis 75001 15 rooms ph 01-42-33-32-31 fax 01-42-33-32-45 85€ (unconfirmed) note: Near the Louvre. no web page found. Frommer’s review: Small, unpretentious, and inexpensive, this hotel has a difficult-to-detect front entrance (it's tucked within a cluster of more highly visible restaurants), a clientele that includes lots of musicians playing at the nearby jazz clubs; and a warm-toned decorative scheme loosely inspired by India, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Bedrooms are small, a bit battered, and artfully accessorized with musical instruments and framed paintings, in some cases originals. Bathrooms are compact, with showers but not bathtubs, and tile work. There's no elevator, so be prepared to climb as many as six flights of stairs. The largest room, and the only one with its own private terrace, is on the top floor. All of the rooms in this hotel that don't have private bathrooms are designated as singles. Accommodations facing the street can be noisy, but double-glazed windows keep out most of the noise, except during the heat of midsummer, when you might have to leave the windows open. 4th Arrondissement Hôtel Jeanne d'Arc, le Marais 3, rue de Jarente 75004 Paris - Subway: Saint Paul Tel: +33 1 48 87 62 11 - Fax: +33 1 48 87 37 31 - Contact: Mésange http://www.parishotels.com/Hotel_Jeanne_d_Arc,_le_Marais_star_en.html 36 rooms 82€ Note: in the Marais near Place des Vosges 5th Arrondissement Home Latin Hotel 15-17 Rue du Sommerard 75005 http://www.homelatinhotel.com/index.html 54 rooms 69€ (Internet rate) ph 01 43 26 25 21 fax 01 43 29 87 04 Frommer’s Review: This is one of Paris's most famous budget hotels, known since the 1970s for its simple lodgings and lying only a 2-minute walk from the Luxembourg Gardens. The functional rooms were renovated in 1999; some have small balconies overlooking the street. Those facing the courtyard are quieter than those on the street. The elevator only goes to the fifth floor, but to make up for the stair climb, the sixth floor's chambres mansardées (attic rooms) offer a romantic location under the eaves and panoramic views. Forty-seven units come with a shower only; the rest have a tub-shower combo. Hotel de la Sorbonne 6rue Victor Cousin 75005 www.hotelsorbonne.com 39 rooms 65-100€ reservation@hotelsorbonne.com Hotel Familia 11 rue des Ecoles 75005 www.hotel-paris-familia.com 30 rooms 90€ next door to Hotel Minerve owned by same family. Frommer’s Review: As the name implies, this is a hotel that has been family-run for decades. Many personal touches make the place unique. The walls of 14 rooms are graced with finely executed sepia-colored frescoes of Parisian scenes. Eight units have restored stone walls, and seven boast balconies with delightful views over the Latin Quarter. Half of the bathrooms come with tubs as well as showers. Thanks to a dynamic family ownership that likes to keep this place up and running, the bedrooms are renovated as often as needed to maintain a high level of comfort. Hotel Minerve 13 rue des Ecoles, 75005 www.hotel-paris-minerve.com 54 rooms 100€ Frommer's Review This is a well-managed, government-rated two-star hotel in the heart of the Latin Quarter, with good-size, comfortable rooms and a staff with a sense of humor. Bedrooms have contemporary-looking mahogany furniture and walls covered in fabric. Try for one of 10 rooms with balconies where you can look out over the street life of Paris, and in some cases enjoy a view of Notre-Dame. Depending on your room assignment, bathrooms range in dimension from cramped to midsize, each with a tub-and-shower combo. If there's no space at the Minerve, a staff member will arrange an equivalent (and equivalently priced) lodging in its sibling, the Familia, next door. Hotel Marignan 13 rue du Sommerard 75005 www.hotel-marignan.com reserve@hotel-marignan.com 30 rooms 90€ 63€ with bath in hall Hotel des Grandes Ecoles 75 rue de Cardinal-Lemoine www.hotel-grandes-ecoles.com 51 rooms 105/130€ (not confirmed) Frommer’s Review: Few other hotels in the neighborhood offer so much low-key charm at such reasonable prices. It's composed of a trio of high-ceilinged buildings, interconnected via a sheltered courtyard where in warm weather singing birds provide a worthy substitute for the TVs deliberately missing from the rooms. Accommodations, as reflected by the price, range from snug, cozy doubles to more spacious chambers. All units were renovated in 2001, and the small bathrooms with showers were also spruced up. Each room is comfortable, but with a lot of luggage the very smallest would be cramped. The room decor is old-fashioned, with feminine touches such as Laura Ashley-inspired flowered upholsteries and ruffles. Many offer views of a garden whose trellises and flowerbeds evoke the countryside Hôtel Moderne St-Germain 33 rue des Ecoles 75005 www.hotel-paris-stgermain.com 45 rooms 69€ (internet rate) ph 01-43-54-37-78 fax 01-43-29-91-31 Frommer’s Review: In the heart of the Latin Quarter, between the Pantheon and Saint-Michel, the Hôtel Moderne is better than ever since it ended the 20th century with a complete overhaul. Though the rooms are small, this is still one of the neighborhood's better three-star hotels. Its charming owner, Mme Gibon, welcomes guests to her spotless accommodations. In the units fronting rue des Ecoles, double-glazed windows hush the traffic. About half of the bathrooms have a tub as well as a shower. Guests can use the sauna and Jacuzzi at the Hôtel Sully next door. 6th Arrondissement Hotel de Nesle 7 rue de Nesle 75006 www.hoteldenesleparis.com 20 rooms 75-100€ extra bed 12€ note: very unique room décor reservations by phone only phone: 33 1 43 54 62 41 fax: 33 1 43 54 31 88 email: contact@hoteldenesle.net Hotel Sevres-Azur 22rue de l’Abbe-Gregoire 75006 www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75006sevresazur.htm 31 rooms 85€ tel +33 (0) 1 45 48 07 fax+33 (0) 1 42 84 01 55 contact Monique note: very near Jardin de Luxembourg Regent’s Hotel 44 rue Madame 75006 www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75006regs.htm 34 rooms 95€ ph 01 45 48 02 81 fax 01 45 44 85 73 note: Heart of St Germaine des pres, ask for high rooms for view. Frommer's Review In the heart of St-Germain-des-Prés, this is a smart Left Bank address. You'll find it in a neighborhood of tony boutiques and fashionable hair salons, and just a short walk over to the Jardin du Luxembourg, where Hemingway strolled as a poor struggling artist looking for a pigeon to kill for his dinner. This is a high-quality choice at reasonable prices, considering its location. Inside, carved-wood headboards, fluffy yellow bedspreads, and flower boxes in the windows evoke sunny Provence. We prefer the rooms on the top floor with their slender balconies overlooking Paris rooftops. All the furnishings are comfortable, and the bathrooms with tub and shower are completely restored. Some rooms open onto a secluded courtyard where breakfast is served if the weather behaves. A few rooms are big enough to accommodate a family of four. Hotel Delavigne 1 rue Casimir Delavigne, 75006 www.hoteldelavigne.com 34 rooms 105€ Note: next to Luxembourg Gardens, Great internet photos of hotel. Frommer's Review Despite modernization, you still get a sense of the building's 18th-century origins, next to the Luxembourg Gardens. The public areas feature a rustic use of chiseled stone, some of it original. The high-ceilinged guest rooms are tasteful, sometimes with wooden furniture, often with upholstered headboards, and sometimes with Spanish-style wrought iron. All of the bathrooms except four have both a tub and shower. 11th Arrondissement Residence Alhambra 13 rue de Malta 75011 www.hotelalhambra.fr 58 rooms 72€, quad 122€ tel (33) 01 47 00 35 52 fax(33) 01 43 57 98 75 note: near Bastille Frommer's Review Named for the famous cabaret/vaudeville theater that once stood nearby, the Alhambra dates from the 1800s. A radical renovation in 2000 gave the hotel its fine contemporary format. In the rear garden, its two-story chalet offers eight additional guest rooms. The small accommodations are bland but comfortable, each in a dull pastel scheme that includes white and ocher. Ten private bathrooms contain a tub-and-shower combo, the rest showers. 12th Arrondissement Hotel de la Porte Doree 273 ave Daumesnil 75012 http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187147-d472021-Reviews-Hotel_de_la_Porte_Doree-Paris_Ile_de_France.html 39 rooms 64€ note: nice neighborhood away from the madding crowd. Nouvel Hotel 24 ave du Bel-Air 75012 www.nouvel-hotel-paris.com 28 rooms 82€ tel (33) 01 43 43 01 81 fax (33) 01 43 44 64 13 note: Near the Bastille Frommer's ReviewThis hotel evokes the French provinces more than urban Paris. Surrounded by greenery in a neighborhood rarely visited by tourists, the Nouvel conjures a day when parts of Paris still seemed like small country towns. The most attractive spot is the inside courtyard, site of warm-weather breakfasts. Winding halls lead to small guest rooms overlooking the courtyard or, less appealingly, the street. Each contains flowered fabrics and old-fashioned furniture, but only three have tub baths; the rest are equipped with showers. 13th Arrondissement Residence les Gobelins 9 rue des Gobelins 75013 www.hotelgobelins.com tel 33 01 47 07 26 90 fax 33 01 43 31 44 05 76€ 14th Arrondissement Hotel Apollon Montparnasse 91 rue de l’Ouest 75014 www.apollon-montparnasse.com 33 rooms 83€ Note: On Montparnasse, Web site available in English but Particularly fun to surf en Francais. Frommer's Review This privately owned hotel lies in Montparnasse, former home of such Left Bank residents as Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. Since opening, the hotel has established a reputation for its good rates and very comfortable bedrooms, which are midsize and furnished with flower spreads and draperies, each with a well-maintained bathroom with tub or shower. Hotel du Parc Montsouris 4 rue Parc Montsouris www.hotel-parc-montsouris.com 35 rooms 71€ 2 adjoining rooms, 2 double beds, 4 people, 98€ Note: See funky video, near large park, rates listed at “room” above reservations. Frommer's Review The residential neighborhood is far removed from central Paris's bustle, the staff is a bit absent-minded, and the decor doesn't pretend to be stylish, but the prices are reasonable enough that this government-rated two-star hotel (a simple structure built in the 1930s) attracts loyal repeat guests; they might be parents of students studying at the nearby Cité Universitaire or provincial clothiers attending fashion shows at the nearby Porte de Versailles. The guest rooms are low-key and quiet, each renovated in the late 1990s. Singles and doubles are small, but the triples are spacious, the suites even more so. Bathrooms contain tubs and showers, except for the seven with showers only.
