Working on the nightmare scenarios
I remember the time that Mamaw was there
The time we got the time for school wrong.
She did dress me funny. It felt funny.
A shirt I didn’t wear any more because
The sleeves were too short. The
Pants she chose for me were too loose.
The legs too long.
And I stood outside the school, the doors locked,
Alone in the wind with the wrong clothes
At the wrong time.
And I went back home.
And Mamaw was watching soap operas
And she took me up on the couch
And explained the ongoing plots and described
Each character’s role in the story
And their strengths and weaknesses.
And we didn’t talk about ours.
