A Brief History of the New Hope Journal

The New Hope Journal  began as a "Back-to-the-land" column in the Sunday Sentinel published in Nacogdoches, Texas for the first time in 1979  where it evolved into a handmade country newsletter praised by the legendary blacklisted humorist and He Haw star, John Henry Faulk.  It became a "rumor in its own time" in Austin and New York City during the 80's and 90's and finally landed on the internet in 1996. We've been on and off the web ever since. Now we're back with a new series of  New Hope Journals in the best and the worst of times from our new (old) home base in the Southern Appalachians.  We're doing it one day at a time but you can look here soon for our thoughts on Ralph Nader's patriotism and what it means for American democracy, and a New Hope Journal how-to guide to listening to Al Franken and friends' Air America Radio on the internet!  while building your own web page.
We'll be traveling, too, filing stories from New York and New Mexico in the next few months. We'll be in Manhattan, the Catskills,  the Gila Wilderness and Lord knows where else.  For now we're layin' low with the fidgets in the Great Smoky Mountains watching the snow melt ever so slowly up on Cold Mountain.
Though I'll turn 60 soon, I'm more passionate than ever about many of the social, cultural and environmental issues of our time.  Still, I have always tried (at least in these published journals) not to take myself too seriously.  So, I've launched this 25th Anniversary edition of the New Hope Journal on April Fool's day, 2004.  No kidding.  Stay tuned and let us hear from you.
